Ch.6 pg.97-111

Summary:
A reporter comes to Gatsby's house. We learn about Gatsby's past and how he met Dan Cody. Gatsby's original name was James Gatz and Cody, his mentor, gave him the name Jay Gatsby. Gatsby assisted traveled with Cody on his yacht. This lifestyle inspired Gatsby to become a wealthy and successful man. Nick goes to Gatsby's house and finds that Tom Buchannan is there with Mr. and Mrs.Sloane. The next Saturday, Tom and Daisy go to Gatsby's party. Tom is concerned with Daisy and Gatsby. Daisy and Nick don't have a good time. Gatsby wants everything to be like it was in Louisville and he is determined to use his wealth to win her back.

Character: Dan Cody
“Cody was fifty years old then, a product of the Nevada silver fields, of the Yukon, of every rush for metal since seventy-five.”
 Cody is successful, rich,a mentor, heavy drinker, giving, “empty face,” left all his money to Gatsby, changed Gatsby's name, and inspired him.
Dan Cody is Gatsby’s mentor. He is the one that introduces Gatsby to the lavish lifestyle and gives him a different name. Cody is the reason why Gatsby turned his life around and strived to become wealthy and sucessful.

Gatsby's desired relationship with Daisy is like a fairytale. His whole world and actions revolve in trying to gain Daisy. He has built up this image of Daisy and an obsession on trying to win her over.
